Infrastructure

Electricity

As part of the infrastructure improvements to the greater Menlyn area, a multi-million rand upgrade of the Highlands substation is currently underway.

Despite the Menlyn Maine buildings being extremely energy efficient they will still require electrical input from the grid. This upgrade will provide for the full electrical requirement for the entire Menlyn Maine precinct. Alstom have been appointed for works, which are due for completion in late 2010.

Other Services

All water, sewerage and provision for telecommunication infrastructure have been completed for phase 1 of the project. The outstanding minor works for phase 2 will take place in late 2010 or early 2011, as the demand requires.

Menlyn Maine is one of the initial global projects proud to strive toward becoming Climate Positive. The Climate Positive Program is a project of the Clinton Climate Initiative and the USGBC. It addresses the dual challenge of climate change and rapid urbanization, demonstrating that cities can grow in ways that are “climate positive,” reducing the amount of on-site greenhouse gas emissions to below zero.
