When it comes to green living, Menlyn Maine is a first and a leader in Africa. Menlyn Maine is a registered member of the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA). This city endeavours to offer a ‘green precinct’ that goes beyond mere energy efficiency and reconciles the natural, social and economic environments according to sustainability principles.

At Menlyn Maine, green solutions become an integral yet unobtrusive part of your lifestyle because we take care of them on behalf of our tenants. Energy efficient systems such as high efficiency lighting fixtures and lighting, HVAC equipment, chillers, hot water service system, efficient motors and elevators and more are a good start to reducing cost and impact.
Beyond that, we’ve reduced the carbon footprint of the development by utilising materials containing recycled content such as cast in-situ concrete, pre-cast concrete systems, structural steel, acoustic panel ceilings, resilient floor tile and carpets.
In Africa, availability of water is a constant concern. To this end, water saving appliances, water efficient irrigation systems and Storm water Harvesting systems are being implemented. Water cycling and recycling is being considered on a building-by-building and precinct wide basis.
Social responsibility aside, green living offers improved levels of comfort, a healthier environment which results in fewer sick days, and a more productive way of living and working.

Menlyn Maine is one of 18 initial global projects proud to be working with the Clinton Climate Initiative in the pursuit of going green and strive toward becoming Climate Positive. The Climate Positive Program is a project of the Clinton Climate Initiative and the USGBC. It addresses the dual challenge of climate change and rapid urbanization, demonstrating that cities can grow in ways that are “climate positive,” reducing the amount of on-site greenhouse gas emissions to below zero.” CCI works with governments and businesses around the world, focusing on three strategic program areas: increasing energy efficiency in cities; catalysing the large scale supply of clean energy & working to stop deforestation.
